Introduction
In the office of my psychiatrist, I had been looking back to what my time at school had been like for the semester I had finished and lamenting what went wrong and why it did. My psychiatrist took that as an opportunity to recommend a book to me. The book is called The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I immediately bought it (nearly a year ago), and I have just recently opened to read it. In my bouts of depression and anxiety, I often struggle to start and complete tasks I set out for. But in the summer of 2024, I set out to do the things I set out to do and complete it as well. I can no longer cripple myself into static. The summer of 2024 is for mindfulness and this book is a great start to that.
What to Know About the Book
Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now emphasizes the importance of living in and for the present while shedding the weight of past and future anxieties. For me, and I am sure a lot of people, being able to exist and be present in the moment can be a hard concept to grasp. Sometimes situations from the past do consume people and anxiety about the future and its endless possibilities can cause someone to go off course. The concept of mindfulness is not new to me, but I am eager to see how Tolle’s approach and insights resonate with my own experiences.
Hypothesizing the Impact
I anticipate that The Power of Now will help me navigate my daily life with a greater sense of peace and clarity. By focusing on the present, I hope to alleviate some lingering stress and worry that often clouds my mind. Specifically, I am looking forward to applying its principles to improve my mental health, better manage my ADHD, and cultivate a more mindful approach to my studies and future career goals.
